This is called ethical hacking. The word was given. My bet is that if they contacted r4p3 then this exploit is not so easy to fix. In other case they would simply release new server version so far just as it used to happen many times before.

This has not been released to public yet, so I doubt someone has created something to block this.

They always sent an e-mail before releasing exploits.
With the previous exploits they sent e-mails before they released it publicly.
This time they announced it the day they were e-mailing.
